Regular price $ 125.00Jack Foster | Handmade Leather Belt: La Bretagna Italian Camouflage "Frog Skin" over Wickett & Craig Bridle, Machine Stitched, Edge Dyed, Made in the USA
Built for the person who wants the history of American military service at the waist, the Jack Foster Handmade Leather Belt in La Bretagna Italian Camouflage "Frog Skin" over Wickett & Craig Bridle is the most historically distinctive and visually striking belt in the Jack Foster collection. It is constructed in the United States from two leathers chosen for opposite and complementary reasons. The face is full-grain Italian camouflage leather rendered in the palette of one of the most iconic American military patterns of the Second World War. The backing is Wickett & Craig Bridle, the dense, hand-finished American vegetable-tanned leather that provides the structure every belt depends on. The belt is machine stitched for clean, precise construction and edge-dyed to a deliberate finish. It is a belt that gets noticed, and it is built to outlast the attention.
The Frog Skin. America's First Mass-Issued Camouflage.
The pattern on this belt is a historically specific reference to the M1942 Camouflage Utility Uniform, known universally as the Frog Skin. It was the first mass-issued camouflage uniform in United States military history. It was developed in the early 1940s as American forces confronted the dense jungle terrain of Guadalcanal, New Georgia, and the island chains of the Pacific, and it was designed as a reversible garment: a green-dominant foliage pattern on one side and a tan-dominant beach pattern on the other. It earned its nickname from the mottled, organic distribution of its olive, brown, tan, and black, which resembled the skin of tropical frogs. It was worn by Marine Raiders, Army Rangers, and select infantry units in some of the most intense fighting of the Pacific War, and it remains one of the most collected and studied pieces of American military textile design.
La Bretagna Camouflage. Italian Leather, American Heritage.
The face of this belt is cut from La Bretagna camouflage leather, an Italian producer known among independent leather craftspeople for specialty and patterned hides of exceptional quality and color accuracy. This is not a print applied to a generic base. It is a full-grain leather with the Frog Skin palette worked into the material, producing a surface with real depth and tactile character. The organic, mottled distribution of color reads as part of the leather itself, and it is immediately recognizable to anyone familiar with the original M1942 pattern.
Wickett & Craig Bridle. The American Backbone.
Beneath the camouflage face, Wickett & Craig Bridle provides the structural foundation. Produced in Curwensville, Pennsylvania, by the last great American vegetable tannery working in an unbroken oak-bark tradition since 1867, bridle leather is dense, firm, and resistant to stretch, which is why it has long been the standard for bridles, harness work, and belts. It holds the belt's shape under daily load, keeps the buckle seated through years of wear, and resists the sag and stretch that ruin lesser belts. Italian camouflage on the face and American bridle at the core makes a construction that is visually bold on the surface and uncompromising underneath.
Machine Stitched. Edge Dyed. Built to the Standard Both Leathers Deserve.
The Jack Foster handmade belt is machine stitched, a deliberate match of method to format. On a belt, the stitch line runs the full length of the piece and must hold consistent tension across a layered construction under daily load, and machine stitching delivers that uniformity. Every edge, including both long sides, the tapered tip, and the buckle end, is finished in a complementary edge dye that seals the layered profile and defines the belt's perimeter with a clean line that frames the camouflage face and holds through years of wear without cracking or peeling.
Built Without Compromise. Worn Every Day.
- La Bretagna Camouflage leather, Frog Skin pattern (face): full-grain Italian camouflage leather in the olive, brown, tan, and black palette of the M1942 United States military pattern
- Wickett & Craig Bridle (backing): dense, vegetable-tanned American leather from the oldest continuously operating American vegetable tannery, providing backbone, shape retention, and resistance to stretch
- Layered construction: Italian camouflage over American bridle, two leathers working together for visual impact and structural permanence
- Machine stitched: clean, consistent, full-length stitching that holds the layers together under daily wear
- Edge dyed: all exposed edges sealed and defined in a complementary dye for a refined, durable finish
- Solid brass hardware: buckle and keeper in genuine solid brass, chosen for longevity and a patina that suits the military character of the belt
- Made in the USA by Jack Foster: every cut, every stitch, and every finishing decision made by American hands
A Belt With History on the Surface and Strength Underneath
Over years of wear, the Wickett & Craig Bridle backing firms up, conforms to the wearer, and develops its own patina, while the camouflage face carries a visual identity that no solid-color leather can match. It pairs naturally with military-heritage field watches, boots, and workwear, and it holds its own with a pair of jeans and nothing else.
This is a belt for the military history enthusiast, the heritage-goods collector, and the everyday wearer who wants something with a story, built from Italian and American leathers by American hands to a standard that outlasts the trend cycle.
Italian leather. American bridle. American history. Built to last a lifetime.
