Jack Foster | The Calhoun: American Alligator Matte Olive Green, Wickett & Craig Bridle Lining, Hand Stitched, Edge Dyed, Made in the USA

The Jack Foster Calhoun in American Alligator Matte Olive Green with Wickett & Craig Bridle Lining pairs the world's most prized exotic leather with one of its most versatile and understated colorways. It is built entirely by hand in the United States from genuine American Alligator in a deep, matte olive green, lined against the wrist with Wickett & Craig Bridle, hand saddle-stitched with waxed linen thread, and edge-dyed to a clean finish. Olive green on alligator is a rare and deliberate choice. It reads as quiet from a distance, and up close the scale pattern, the depth of color, and the construction explain why it is anything but ordinary.

The Calhoun. A Jack Foster Original.

The Calhoun is the Jack Foster strap for the collector who wants a design identity as considered as the material it carries. Its profile is clean, purposeful, and proportioned by twelve years of pattern making experience to complement the leather rather than compete with it. On American Alligator, that restraint matters. The Calhoun lets the scale pattern carry the visual identity of the strap without decoration or distraction.

American Alligator. The Apex of Exotic Leather.

Genuine American Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) is harvested and processed in the United States under strict federal and state wildlife regulations. It is prized by the finest watch houses and luxury goods makers for the symmetry of its scale pattern, the consistency of its belly tile, and the natural quality of its surface, qualities that imported caiman and farmed crocodilian do not match.

Matte Olive Green is a colorway with real range. It is darker and richer than a military drab, with enough depth to show the three-dimensional character of every scale, and the matte finish keeps the surface understated instead of glossy. It sits naturally beside field watches, pilot references, and military-heritage tool watches, where olive is a native color. It complements bronze and brass cases, green and black dials, and the warm patina of vintage steel. It also stands apart from the browns and blacks that dominate exotic straps, which suits the collector who wants alligator without the expected colorway.

Wickett & Craig Bridle. The American Lining.

Against the wrist, the Calhoun is lined with Wickett & Craig Bridle, produced in Curwensville, Pennsylvania, by the last great American vegetable tannery working in an unbroken oak-bark tradition since 1867. Bridle is dense, smooth, and firm, a leather with real backbone that supports the structure of the strap, resists stretch, and settles comfortably against the skin over months of wear. It develops its own patina in direct contact with the wrist, so the lining ages into something personal while the alligator face holds its character.

Hand Stitched. Not Assembled. Made in America.

Every stitch on this strap is set by hand using a traditional saddle-stitch, a waxed linen thread lock-stitch that is stronger, more durable, and more repairable than any machine stitch. Alligator calls for hand construction. The scale surface needs careful hand-skiving to keep the pattern intact through the taper, and the edges need patient finishing to seal and define the profile. Every Calhoun is cut, skived, edge-dyed, and hand saddle-stitched from start to finish in the USA by Jack Foster.

Built to the Standard the Leather Demands.

  • Genuine American Alligator in Matte Olive Green: Alligator mississippiensis, harvested and processed in the United States, in a deep, understated matte finish that shows the full depth of the scale pattern
  • Wickett & Craig Bridle lining: dense, vegetable-tanned American leather from the oldest continuously operating American vegetable tannery, providing structure, stretch resistance, and wrist comfort
  • The Calhoun silhouette: an original Jack Foster design, proportioned to let the alligator scale pattern lead
  • Hand saddle-stitched with waxed linen thread: traditional hand construction for heirloom-grade durability
  • Hand-skived edges: precisely tapered through the scale surface to preserve the pattern and the strap's structure
  • Edge dyed: all exposed edges sealed and defined in a complementary dye for a clean, lasting finish
  • Made entirely in the USA by Jack Foster: every cut, stitch, and finishing decision made by American hands

A Strap That Gets Better on the Wrist

American Alligator ages with a refinement no bovine leather can match. Over months and years of wear, the scale pattern gains definition as the natural oils of wrist contact work into the hide, and the matte olive develops a subtle, earned warmth at the points of greatest contact. The Bridle lining softens and conforms to the wrist in parallel, and the hand stitch holds the whole construction together for as long as the strap is worn.

This is a watch strap for the collector who wants the finest exotic leather in a colorway that rewards a second look, built from American Alligator and American Bridle by an American maker who has never taken a shortcut on a material that deserves none.

American exotic. American lining. American craft. The Calhoun. Worn for life.
